This year at Storer we had a small group. 12 scouts attended including a visitor from Japan who’s English skills made a huge improvement during his visit. The older scouts were busy taking the BSA lifeguard certification. The younger scouts participated in the other merit badge activities offered at the camp including swimming, orienteering, camping and woodcarving. Sailing was enjoyed this year by some fearless scouts who with minimal training quickly managed their boats expertly around the lake, in the early part of the session the need for speed overcame the concerns about absolute directional control, but quickly the speed and direction became beautifully harmonized except for the occasional interruption of the boat being the wrong way up. Quickly righted and back on tack. Kayak polo and watermelon tussle were great fun. We enjoyed the k2 as usual, an overwhelming challenge for some and a new victory for others. We participated in the camp sports and took second place to the Maryland scout and their invincible 80 strong troop. The last night camp fire was a delight, the Maryland troop was a talented bunch and brought new enthusiasm to the event. Several parents enjoyed a day or two with the scouts. My special thanks go out to those who were able to make the trip. Several scouts made a special effort to get up early and enjoy the polar bear swim. One of our eagle scout graduates visited the camp a was able to enjoy some quiet time reminiscing about His formative years as scout at Storer.
Special thanks to the SPL who was able to lead in a calm way, even though he was at times too physically tired to think.
