The Alpha Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity at MIT in conjunction with Boston Minuteman Council presents Merit Badge Institute at MIT – 2011, Sunday, October 23 and Sunday, November 20. Both sessions are required. Most badges have an optional field trip on an intervening Sunday.
Scouts will have an opportunity to earn two (non-Eagle required) science-related merit badges while attending classes at MIT. Merit Badges to be offered are Nuclear Science, Engineering, Computers, Chemistry plus 2-4 additional MBs (to be named NLT 9/18.) For most MB’s, some requirements must be done prior to the first Sunday session. (The counselor will correspond with Scouts by mid-October with this information.) To complete the merit badge, other work may need to be done between the first and second session or a partial will be issued.
Advance registration is required by Sunday, October 9 (or earlier if class enrollment limits are reached before then.) Website access at bsaboston.org opens Sunday, September 25 for Scouts in the Boston Minuteman Council. Fee is $24, payable by credit card at the time of on-line registration. Fee includes merit badge pamphlet for each merit badge, patch, and MIT Diploma. All classes will be conducted in classroom buildings on MIT’s main campus in Cambridge. On-site check-in opens at 12:30 PM on Sunday, October 23. Pre-registration on-line is required – no walk-ins will be honored.
